Halley's conviction that everyone ought to read the Bible daily. From its first edition, a small give-away booklet of 16 pages, it has grown into a 864-page "almanac" of biblical information, used regularly by hundreds of thousands of laymen, teachers, and ministers. Halley's Bible handbook contains more biblical information than any other book its size. It has been a continuous best-seller through the years and has sold more than five million copies in many languages. On April 28, 1961, the GUTENBERG AWARD was presented to Dr. Henry H. Halley by the Chicago Bible Society. The award reads in part: "Throughout the years, Halley's Bible Handbook, in one edition after another, has aided the sincere Bible student to find his way more deeply into the blessed and saving knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ." My Review If you join us in reading through the Bible in 2010, the only Bible handbook you'll ever need is this one. I'd recommend this to anyone who seriously wants to learn Biblical History, or any one who loves study in depth God's Word. Once you start reading and using this Handbook you will be motivated to keep reading. It makes the Bible hard to put down. I have spent a lot of time reading Halley's Bible Handbook. It has helped me get an overview of any book of the Bible I am reading. If you want to know the following about any book of the Bible ie... who wrote it, why was it written, to whom was it written, when it was written, the times and circumstances surrounding the writing and a general summary of the book then Halley's Bible Handbook is the one for you. I own 8 Bible commentaries, and this is by far my absolute favorite. It is a book that can be read by an 11-year-old, or a 90-year-old. With its comprehensive reviews of each chapter of the Bible, the pictures, maps, and archaeological information, you gain a greater feel for this timeless book. |
